Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Inbetween. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the platform.

1. Who can use Inbetween

Inbetween is for current students of Western University (London, Ontario, Canada). To create an account, you must:

  • Have a valid @uwo.ca email address
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be capable of forming a legally binding contract under Canadian law

You may not create an account on behalf of another person or use an email address that does not belong to you.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that don't meet these requirements.

2. Your account

You're responsible for:

  • Maintaining the security of your account
  • All activity that occurs under your account
  • Notifying us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised

You may not:

  • Share your account with others
  • Create multiple accounts
  • Buy, sell, or transfer your account
  • Use automation, bots, or scripts to interact with the platform

3. Your content

You retain ownership of the posts, comments, and other content you submit to Inbetween ("your content").

By submitting content, you grant Inbetween a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to host, store, display, reproduce, and distribute your content as necessary to operate the service.

You're responsible for your content. You represent that:

  • You own or have the rights to share what you post
  • Your content doesn't violate any law or third-party rights
  • Your content complies with our Community Guidelines

You can delete your own content at any time.

4. What's not allowed

Inbetween has Community Guidelines that describe what's prohibited. They're incorporated into these Terms by reference. Prohibited content and conduct includes (but isn't limited to):

  • Harassment, bullying, or targeted abuse of individuals
  • Hate speech based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or other protected characteristics
  • Threats of violence
  • Doxxing or sharing personal information of others without consent
  • Sexual content
  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
  • Content promoting self-harm or suicide
  • Illegal content, including content that violates Canadian or Ontario law
  • Spam, scams, or coordinated inauthentic behavior
  • Impersonation of others
  • Content that infringes intellectual property rights
  • Content that directly facilitates cheating on Western coursework

Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent banning at our sole discretion.

5. Anonymity

Inbetween allows anonymous posting. Anonymous mode means your handle is hidden from other users, but it does not provide full anonymity to us. We retain records of who posted what content for moderation, safety, and legal compliance purposes.

We may disclose the identity of an anonymous poster if:

  • Required by law or valid legal process
  • We believe disclosure is necessary to prevent serious harm
  • The poster has clearly violated our policies and disclosure is needed for enforcement

6. Moderation

We reserve the right, but not the obligation, to:

  • Review, moderate, or remove any content
  • Suspend or ban any user
  • Modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature of the service

Moderation decisions are at our sole discretion. We aim to be fair and transparent, but we don't guarantee uniform outcomes.

If you believe a moderation decision was made in error, you may appeal by emailing safety@inbtween.app.

7. Reports

If you encounter content that violates these Terms or our Community Guidelines, please report it via the in-app report button. We review reports and take appropriate action, which may include removing content, warning the user, suspending the account, or banning the user.

Submitting false or malicious reports is itself a violation of these Terms.

8. Service availability

Inbetween is provided "as is" and "as available." We don't guarantee that:

  • The service will be uninterrupted or error-free
  • Any defects will be corrected immediately
  • The service will meet your specific needs

We may modify, suspend, or terminate the service at any time, with or without notice.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • Inbetween is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
  • Our total liability for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you've paid us in the past 12 months, or (b) CAD $100
  • We're not responsible for the actions, content, or omissions of other users
  • We're not responsible for any content you encounter on the platform

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Inbetween harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from:

  • Your use of the service
  • Your content
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any third-party rights

11. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Ontario.

Before filing any legal action, you agree to first contact us at safety@inbtween.app and attempt good-faith resolution.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify users by email and may require renewed acceptance.

Your continued use of the service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

13. Termination

You may delete your account at any time by emailing support@inbtween.app or using the in-app account deletion feature (when available).

We may suspend or terminate your account immediately if we believe you've violated these Terms or our Community Guidelines.
